Academic Consulting & Statistical Mentoring
Bridging statistics, learning psychology, and real-world problem-solving
徐嘉烨 | Jiaye Xu, PhD in Statistics, FHEA (with Distinction)
I help students, researchers, and professionals overcome barriers in statistical thinking—whether those barriers are conceptual, methodological, or emotional.
Why I offer this
For over five years, I have taught mathematics and statistics to diverse learners across 985 universities and Sino-foreign joint institutions. Time and again, I see capable students struggle not because of ability, but because of fear, disconnection, or a lack of clear mental models.
My mission is to make rigorous mathematical and statistical reasoning accessible, humane, and genuinely useful—especially for those who never thought they could “do math.” This work is a natural extension of my teaching, now offered directly to individuals and small groups.
Experience & Credentials
PhD in Statistics (United States) — specialized in forensic statistics and Bayesian reasoning.
FHEA with Distinction — recognized by Advance HE for excellence in higher education teaching.
5+ years full-time teaching in mathematics and statistics at 985 and Sino-foreign joint universities; consistent top student evaluations.
Bilingual (English/Chinese) instruction; extensive experience designing full-English curricula.
Ongoing research in evidence evaluation and probabilistic reasoning in legal contexts.
Active interest in learning psychology — integrating cognitive science insights into teaching to help students overcome math anxiety.
Approach & Boundaries
I work as an educator and academic mentor, not as a licensed psychologist or therapist. My role is to help you build knowledge, skills, and confidence in quantitative fields.
If, during our work together, we identify persistent emotional or psychological difficulties (e.g., significant anxiety, depression, or trauma), I will discuss this with you and, if needed, help connect you with a qualified mental health professional.
Important Disclaimer:
This service is educational and consultative in nature. It does not constitute psychological therapy, diagnosis, or treatment of mental health conditions. No therapist-client relationship is formed. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please contact a local emergency service or licensed professional immediately.
